Third Grade Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a positive, safe, healthy, respectful and faith-filled environment  where all our students have the opportunity to become productive citizens in this ever-changing world.
Religion Subject Icon
We use the Sadlier program which is a scripture based program that puts emphasis on the Church as a community. Students will have opportunities to learn about the lives of the saints and share their faith. Each class plans several masses a year. Weekly tests will be given, usually on Fridays.
Reading Subject Icon
Guided reading groups will be used. We will meet the needs of each student through the use of leveled classroom books, the book room and Reading A to Z. Specific grade level skills will be introduced, reviewed and assessed weekly
Writing Subject Icon
Emphasis is on sentence structure, parts of speech and written composition. Using the writing process students will compose personal narratives, biographies, persuasive essays, paragraphs, poetry and more. We will be using our English textbooks as a resource in the writing process.
Social Studies Subject Icon
We use the Pearson social studies curriculum which focuses on teaching about Missouri and Missouri's Geography. We touch on Missouri’s economy, environment and government. Study guides will be utilized for tests in advance.
Math Subject Icon
We use the McGraw Hill My Math program which develops conceptual understanding through daily problem based interactive learning and step by step visual learning. Math fact practice is given daily and mad minute timed quizzes are given weekly. These quizzes are graded (using a modified scale) and entered in the fast direct gradebook. We also use the IXL web-based program both at home and school.
Spelling Subject Icon
We  use the Zaner Bloser book which provides daily spelling practice by connecting spelling to thinking, reading, writing, phonics and vocabulary through engaging exercises  and minds-on activities.  Pretests are given on Monday and the final tests are on Friday. Spelling sentence dictation tests will be given starting in the second quarter.

Inspire Science will spark student’s interest, encourage critical thinking, and incorporate hands-on investigation. Module and lessons will vary. Study guides will be utilized and sent home before every test.
