Seventh Grade Curriculum

Seventh Grade Mission Statement

As educators in seventh grade, we continue to foster an environment of active faith engagement,  academic growth, and personal responsibility in their educational journey at St. Clement of Rome School. As they begin their journey as adults within the Catholic faith we continue to strengthen their relationship with God, cultivate personal responsibility through varied learning techniques and collaborative opportunities. Our goal is to provide them with the tools to successfully continue their Middle School journey as leaders of our school, both academically and spiritually.

In 7th grade Religion we will begin the year with a project and studying the New Testament.  In October we will cover The Family Life series.  At the beginning of January we will begin the Confirmation series and will complete it in April before the students make their Confirmation.  We will finish the school year continuing our study of the New Testament and take a sneak preview at Church history as a jump start into the 8th grade religion curriculum.

In 7th grade literature, we will focus on short stories, poetry,  non-fiction, historical fiction, and fantasy as some of our genres.  Through the use of IXL, specific skills will be practiced.  Vocabulary will be developed through our reading as well as Word of the Day.  Independent reading will be fostered through quiet reading time. Class discussions, projects, reflections, writings,  and other assessments will be used throughout the year
English Subject Icon
The 7th grade English curriculum introduces students to the more intricate complexities of language and grammar.  Through the application of these skills in writing projects, students develop greater structure, word choice, sentence fluency, voice, and conventions in their work.  Many assignments are cross-curricular in nature to make the study of the English language more relevant, meaningful, and purposeful to the learner.  Vocabulary is built through the study of prefixes.
Social Studies Subject Icon
The social studies curriculum is an exploration of the beginning of American History, foundations of Government, and continued Geography work. The class is a project-based learning structure that provides the opportunity for students to engage in collaborative activities and the continued development of historical thinking. The structure of the class includes time for collaboration, socratic seminars, small group activities, presentations, diving into primary and secondary sources, and inquiry based learning.
